What are the common types of compressors?Rotary Screw Compressors: Best for large scale jobs and industrial settings that require continuous airflow and range in power from 5 horsepower up to 350 horsepower. Rotary Screw compressors have an internal cooling system and generate energy via two internal rotors that turn in opposite directions. These can be lubricated with oil or run oil-free. Reciprocating Compressors: Best for home and small construction projects, these are not designed for continuous use and can come in single or multistage variations depending on the amount of power needed. Reciprocating compressors work via a piston inside a cylinder which compresses and displaces the air to build pressure. Axial Compressors: Best for aerospace applications and high-speed engines for ships or airplanes. These are highly efficient and powerful for high horsepower applications. Centrifugal Compressors: Best for large scale manufacturing plants. Centrifugal compressors use a multi-phase compression process to produce a high amount of energy in a relatively small machine, can reach around 1,000 horsepower.

-
How often does my equipment need to be serviced? This varies by technology, manufacturer, and running hours. As a basic rule of thumb for a company operating 4000 hours per year or less generally requires a minimum of two services a year. This would consist of one full service and one minor service. A company operating over 4000 hours per year generally requires 4 services per year. At Peak Compressor LLC we default to what the manufacturer of your equipment recommends, maintaining any applicable warranties or guarantees offered from that manufacturer.

Why does the oil cost so much money?Air compressor fluids are unique in that they not only need to keep the equipment running cool, but they also need to help clean the equipment. Air compressor fluids have special additives that allow them to work in the extreme conditions that these pieces of equipment create. This means they must handle extreme temperatures, high moisture levels, and keep your unit lubricated and cool. Similar fluids such as hydraulic fluid have similar properties but do not have the key additives to maintain your equipment and can cause more problems.
-
Do I have to use OEM Filters and Oil?If you have a piece of equipment under the manufacturer’s warranty, then yes. To maintain your warranty, with almost every manufacturer you are required to use OEM parts and fluids to maintain that warranty. If you are outside of the warranty period, then you have the option to use aftermarket parts and fluids.
